I exhibit at a lot of wedding fayres and I really love chatting to the couples, but what I find frustrating is that a lot of the couples have already chosen a registrar because they were not informed of the having a celebrant- led ceremony, which is a real shame as they clearly were interested and wished they had known before booking a registrar and feel it is too late to change now.
Some couples didn’t know what a celebrant was and others did but because they were told it wasn’t “legal” (which currently is true in England and Wales); and they were not encouraged to look any further.
If you opt for a Celebrant-led ceremony and just want to complete the legal bit at a registry office, you can request a simple “statutory service to complete your paperwork and declarations. You may have heard it called a 2:2 ceremony.
You do not need to wear your wedding attire or exchange rings or vows, but will need 2 witnesses and will have to repeat a legal statement.
Once this is done you are legally married and can have your celebrant-led ceremony with all the bells and whistles wherever and whenever you like and not worry you not legally married.
