A Micro Wedding with a Handfasting Ceremony
In September this year, I had the pleasure of photographing a beautiful celebrant-led handfasting ceremony for Orraya and Callum in the Peak District, held at Callum’s parents’ home. They chose my micro wedding photography coverage which was perfect for their intimate celebrations.
Originally planned to take place in the garden, the weather had other ideas! Heavy rain on the morning of the wedding meant it moved indoors, but Orraya and Callum took it all in their stride. Their family home became the perfect setting – warm and inviting – for a celebration that felt incredibly personal.
The ceremony, led by the wonderful Jackie Border from Soulmate Ceremonies, full of meaning. It featured two beautiful rituals that brought everyone together.
The first was a ring warming, where the wedding rings were passed around in a small pouch so each guest could offer a silent wish or blessing for the couple.
The second was a handfasting ritual, the ancient tradition of literally “tying the knot.” As Orraya and Callum stood hand in hand, each guest laid a ribbon across their joined hands, layer upon layer, until the final knot was tied, symbolising togetherness.
